Latvia’s first online practical workshop on hernia surgery, 23 March 2026, Riga
23.03.2026 - 23.03.2026

On March 23, 2026, the TZMO Group and SIA TZMO Latvija in collaboration with the Pauls Stradiņš University Clinical Hospital in Riga hosted an international workshop on modern hernia surgery. This was the first practical workshop on hernia surgery broadcast in Latvia and the first at the Pauls Stradiņš University Clinical Hospital in Riga.

The event, held at one of the most prestigious academic centers in Latvia, was led by distinguished experts Prof. Kryspin Mitura, MD, PhD, and Dr. Andrejs Brikuns.

The program focused on the practical use of hernia meshes in two planned and live-streamed abdominal hernia repair surgeries. The entire event was broadcast in English via the MPC website.

In the first part of the meeting, specialists performed a laparoscopic repair of a primary ventral hernia, commenting in detail on each technical step of the procedure. Participants then listened to a lecture by Professor Mitura, who smoothly introduced the second, more challenging case – the repair of an incisional hernia in a patient after laparoscopic nephrectomy. The intensive day concluded with the second part of the theoretical panel and a Q&A session, during which surgeons shared their experience in managing complex abdominal wall defects.

After the online broadcast, the workshop presenters continued their meeting with the workshop participants gathered live at the hospital.

The workshop at this hospital once again confirmed this center's role as a leader in implementing highly specialised medical standards in the region.
